The initiative is part of Marriott’s Serve360 platform, which aligns the company’s global sustainability and social impact efforts. Marriott says the program allows hotel teams across Canada to prepare and distribute dry soup packets to local food banks and shelters, while reducing food waste.
“At Marriott International, we believe in the power of hospitality to make a meaningful difference,” says Paul Cahill, chief operations officer, Canada. “Our expanded partnership with La Tablée des Chefs through the ready‑to‑cook soups initiative reflects our commitment to reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity. By engaging our hotel teams nationwide, we continue to strengthen the connection between our associates and the communities they serve.”
Since 2023, more than 75 Marriott properties in nine provinces have partnered with La Tablée des Chefs to donate surplus food, providing over 127,000 meals to local communities. The expanded soup program has already distributed 45,000 packets through participating properties.
Jean‑François Archambault, founder and general director of La Tablée des Chefs, says Marriott’s participation has a meaningful impact. “I’m incredibly proud to see Marriott Hotels of Canada actively engaged in the fight against food insecurity. Whether through our Food Recovery program or by producing and distributing dry soup to families in need, this institution demonstrates a solidarity and generosity that resonates across the country,” he says.
Archambault notes that, having started his career with Marriott, the partnership is “particularly touching” and reflects shared values in addressing food insecurity.
La Tablée des Chefs, founded in 2002, focuses on feeding those in need and educating young people to build food autonomy. The organization has redistributed more than 21 million portions of surplus food in Canada.
Marriott says its broader Serve360 initiatives include reducing global waste to landfill intensity by 23 per cent and food waste to landfill intensity by 29 per cent by the end of 2024, compared to 2019 levels.
Additional details on the partnership and the company’s environmental, social and governance initiatives are available in Marriott’s 2025 Serve360 Report.
