The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio, has made its official entry into Atlantic Canada with the addition of Muir, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Halifax. Located in the Queen’s Marque district on the city’s waterfront, the hotel brings the brand’s ethos of culturally immersive travel to Nova Scotia, marking a milestone in its Canadian expansion strategy.
Bruce Rohr, vice-president and global brand leader for The Luxury Collection, says the launch reflects a growing commitment to meaningful, place-based experiences. “True to its promise — Born of this Place — the hotel captures the spirit of Nova Scotia with striking authenticity,” he says in a news release. “Its maritime heritage, coastal beauty and vibrant local artistry are woven throughout the experience, offering guests a rare opportunity to connect with Halifax in a way that is both meaningful and elevated.”
Envisioned, developed and operated by The Armour Group Limited, Muir features 109 guest rooms and suites designed by Halifax-based firm MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects. The interiors incorporate materials such as local granite, sandstone and Muntz metal — a copper alloy historically used in shipbuilding — and showcase custom furnishings and original Nova Scotia artwork.
“Muir’s elevation to The Luxury Collection portfolio allows us to deepen our story and introduce new ways for guests to experience this remarkable region,” says Talha Khan, general manager, Muir, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Halifax. “This next chapter is an invitation to return or discover us for the first time, with new offerings designed to help guests connect more deeply with Nova Scotia through art, adventure and cuisine.”
The property’s culinary program is anchored by Drift, a restaurant offering a modern take on Atlantic Canadian cuisine. Designed to reflect Nova Scotia hospitality, Drift overlooks Halifax’s harbour and the nearby Tidal Beacon art installation. The hotel also features BKS, a guest-exclusive speakeasy with an elevated waterfront terrace, craft cocktails and a selection of small plates.
Beyond its food and beverage offerings, the hotel provides a full wellness centre, a private yacht and motorboat program, and curated cultural programming. Experiences include private air and sea expeditions to the Cape Breton Highlands, guided art tours in the hotel’s gallery True Colours, and a hands-on mixology class held in the hidden BKS lounge. Muir also participates in The Luxury Collection’s signature Epicurean Moments with a daily toast timed to Halifax’s historic Noon Gun tradition.
As The Luxury Collection grows its footprint in Canada, the inclusion of Muir highlights Nova Scotia’s positioning as a premium destination for travellers seeking authentic cultural immersion.
“This property represents what we believe travel should be — rooted in place, inspired by the people, and unforgettable,” Rohr states.
