Sunray Group opens dual‑brand Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites in Chatham

A new dual-brand hotel combining a Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites has opened in Chatham, marking a new milestone for the region’s hospitality landscape.

The 213-room property, owned by Sunray Group, brings together two InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) brands under one roof, offering both short-stay and extended-stay accommodations. The Candlewood Suites component, featuring 92 fully equipped suites, officially opened its doors this week.

This milestone project is owned by the Sunray Group. We are proud to bring this unique, combined offering to the Chatham community, providing guests with both trusted extended-stay and smart, simple overnight options,” writes Dilawar Nindra, vice-president of operations (special projects) at Sunray Group, in a statement announcing the opening.

The property expands IHG’s presence in southwestern Ontario and adds new accommodation options for business and leisure travellers. The Holiday Inn Express portion offers contemporary guestrooms geared toward short-term guests, while Candlewood Suites caters to long-stay travellers with in-room kitchenettes and workspaces.

Based in Toronto, Sunray Group is a hospitality and development company, with a portfolio that includes hotels under major global brands such as IHG, Marriott, Hilton and Choice Hotels.

Nindra credited the project’s success to collaboration and community support, extending thanks to everyone involved in bringing the development to completion.

The opening represents the continued growth of dual-brand hotel models in Canada, which aim to combine operational efficiencies with diverse accommodation offerings tailored to guest needs.
