The Skills for Success in Food Services and Accommodation program is designed to equip job seekers with the foundational and transferable skills required for three in-demand hospitality roles: hotel front desk agents, hotel room attendants and food and beverage servers. The training will be offered at no cost to participants.
Since accepting applicants in April, the program has attracted interest from nearly 300 job seekers, a signal of the growing demand for accessible, industry-specific training that connects directly to employment.
“This program is not just about filling jobs—it’s about preparing people for meaningful careers in hospitality,” said Fatima Finnegan, ORHMA’s vice-president of workforce initiatives and industry relations. “We’re proud to be part of a project that bridges the gap between labour market needs and the untapped potential of individuals looking to enter or re-enter the workforce.”
Developed in collaboration with Essential Skills Group Inc. (ESG) and AyeWorks Inc., the program places particular focus on underrepresented groups, including newcomers, women, youth and racialized individuals. Key components include:
- Online training tailored to the responsibilities of the three target roles
- Assessment tools aligned with Canada’s nine Skills for Success, with emphasis on key social and emotional competencies
- Employment coaching for selected candidates
- Paid 12-week work placements for top performers
ORHMA is currently inviting hotel and restaurant operators across Ontario to participate by offering employment opportunities for trainees. Employers interested in joining the program are encouraged to contact Fatima Finnegan at ffinnegan@orhma.com or by phone at (905) 361-0268/(800) 668-8906 ext. 0335.
Funded under the federal Skills for Success initiative, the program aims to support employers in building a skilled, diverse and resilient workforce while opening new pathways for job seekers to build lasting careers in the hospitality industry.
Further details, including registration information, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
