Fairmont Pacific Rim has unveiled Suite X, a new luxury accommodation concept created in collaboration with Vancouver-based artist and author Douglas Coupland. Located on the hotel’s Fairmont Gold floor, the suite functions as a hybrid of private residence and immersive art installation.
Described by Coupland as “a non-downloadable experience,” Suite X features original artworks, custom-designed furniture and curated literature, including selections from his personal collection and titles from the TASCHEN library.
“I’ve tried to make something that’s a bridge between your imagination and the real world,” Coupland said in a statement issued by the hotel. “It’s the kind of place I would actually want to live in myself.”
Blurring the line between art and hospitality
Suite X is housed within a renovated Fairmont Gold Corner Suite and offers panoramic views of Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and the North Shore Mountains. The space includes bold graphic elements, neon signage and vitrines referencing marine debris — a recurring motif in Coupland’s recent environmental work.
The project was developed in partnership with real estate firms Westbank and Peterson. Both companies have previously worked with Coupland on public art installations and design projects in Vancouver.
“This suite represents the intersection of hospitality and artistry,” said Jens Moesker, regional vice-president and general manager, in a press release. “It offers guests a unique opportunity to experience Douglas Coupland’s vision of Vancouver.”
Part of a broader repositioning
Suite X is part of a larger refresh of the hotel’s Fairmont Gold level, which also includes updated technology, wellness-focused amenities and expanded cultural programming such as the Pacific Gallery. The in-house gallery launched earlier this year with a separate exhibition by Coupland.
The suite is designed to appeal to guests seeking differentiated luxury experiences with strong ties to place and culture. According to Fairmont Pacific Rim, Suite X reflects growing demand for hospitality environments that are emotionally resonant and creatively engaging.
Strategic implications for hotel operators
From an industry perspective, Suite X demonstrates how hotels can leverage cultural partnerships to create brand distinction and attract media attention. The launch has already received coverage in publications including Montecristo, NUVO, Bold Traveller and The GATE.
It also reflects a broader trend in hospitality toward experiential offerings rooted in local identity, particularly in destination cities like Vancouver where cultural tourism plays a growing role in hotel demand.
Availability and booking
Suite X is available for booking via the hotel’s website under the Fairmont Gold Corner Suite category. Rates are available upon request and include access to Fairmont Gold amenities, including a private lounge, concierge service and enhanced in-room technology.
