VANCOUVER — Inside Design Studio was given the task of updating the Westin Whistler lobby and public areas, and at the same time blending the changes into the existing architecture and finishes.

“The Westin Lobby is one of Whistler’s iconic spaces. The space is majestic and natural, following our earlier concept of biophilic design,” said Judy Henderson principal of Inside Design Studio. Biophilic design is a concept used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions.

“The large fireplace and rustic rock walls bring the natural alpine elements inside,” said Henderson. “We introduced modern furnishing and forms to provide an organic flow in the space and intentionally reinvented the typical rectangular furniture layouts. The free form furniture creates a casual and flexible lobby space.”

“The customer response has been terrific,” said Henderson. “It’s always a pleasure to work on such a Whistler Icon!”
