HAMILTON, Ont. — The ownership and management of TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hamilton is proud to officially open its doors on Tuesday, November 17. This new 125-suite hotel is built for travellers looking for comfort and a friendly location where they can settle in, meet, maintain routine and easily connect to Hamilton and the surrounding area. Located at 1195 Upper James Street and highly visible from the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, this all-suite hotel will operate as a Marriott franchise. General manager Satish Palasseri and director of sales Julie Sutton-Yardley will lead the management team at the property.

The hotel is a joint venture between Sigma Group, Kothari Group and Sahar Hospitality. “Since the start of this project in 2019, we have been anticipating and are thrilled to open our doors and a tremendous step during these unprecedented times,” said Anupam Kothari, president of Kothari Group.

“We’re excited to bring the TownePlace Suites by Marriott to Hamilton. With the support of the City of Hamilton, our business partners, suppliers and Marriott International, we’re incredibly proud and excited to be part of the tremendous growth in the city of Hamilton,” explained Andy Jasuja, chairman of Sigma Group.

Construction took 18 months, Anupam Kothari told CLN on a tour of the hotel, adding that if you subtract the three months lost to COVID, construction took just 15 months from foundation to opening.

The hotel is one of the first Generation 5 TownePlace Suites hotels. “We were about to go ahead with the hotel when we saw these plans for Generation 5,” and decided the new prototype had many of the features they needed, said Anita Dharamshi, managing partner of Sigma Group.

“We believe TPS Hamilton is our first Gen 5 in Canada,” said Paul Loehr, Marriott International, regional vice-president, Canada, Development. “The developer made some modifications to prototype, so it’s closer to 90 per cent Gen 5 prototype vs. 100 per cent. We think it looks great.”

“TownePlace Suites is all about living, working, and feeling comfortable and at home,” added Julie Sutton-Yardley, director of sales for the hotel. “It’s an urban extended stay brand — five day stays are our sweet spot. It’s about urban living and experiencing a sense of place — getting to know Hamilton and the surrounding area. We also have Marriott’s Commitment to Clean — we’re visibly cleaning and wiping down surfaces. We want to exceed all those standards.”

TownePlace Suites by Marriott is a hyper-local brand, as shown by the giant map in the lobby. Sutton-Yardley said that both Tourism Hamilton and Ontario Regional Tourism Organization (RTO) 3 have worked tirelessly providing information and grants to fund personal protection equipment.

“It’s a home away from home, with an open living area. People can hang out in the lobby — we have lots of plug-ins and space where people can spend time with colleagues and family,” said Dharamshi.

“On behalf of Marriott International in Canada, I congratulate Sigma Group of Companies and Kothari Group on the opening of their TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hamilton. The hotel’s opening demonstrates the strength and resilience of the extended-stay model while creating value for our guests and owners,” said Loehr.
