Andrew Salomon goes to Seattle. Jelena Mrdjenovich wins at boxing. Kalene Finnegan promoted at Fairmont Royal York. Karla Brennan joins Cherry Beach Resort. ORHMA's new board of directors.

Andrew Salomon has started a new position with Stonebridge Group of Companies in Seattle, Wash., as sales manager at the Residence Inn Downtown Seattle/Convention Center. His previous position was as director of sales and marketing for TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Thunder Bay, Ont. Prior to joining the hotel industry, Salomon was branch manager at Enterprise Holdings, with full responsibility for $8.5 million in annual revenue at the Thunder Bay Airport operation.

Congratulations to professional boxer Jelena Mrdjenovich, who just defended her title as World Boxing Association World Female Featherweight for the fourth time in a match against Vissia Trovato on June 22. Jelena is the sister of Aleksa and Milica Mrdjenovich of Nova Hotels. “Jelena just defended her crown for the fourth time, but real boxing fans know she is one of the greatest champions of all time and that she has spent a lifetime defending the green and gold,” the World Boxing Council tweeted following the match.

Kalene Finnegan has been promoted to the position of conference concierge manager at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. She has been at the Royal York for almost three years, previously in the roles of sales coordinator and conference services and catering coordinator. She also worked as an intern at the hotel. Before coming to the Royal York, she worked for Deerhurst Resort as a guest services agent and at the Humber Room at Humber College. She has received a number of awards including Greater Toronto Hotel Association Award, Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism Pathway Award, Humber Hospitality Ambassador Award and HAC's Stephen Phillips – Passion for Hospitality Scholarship.

Karla Brennan is now general manager and revenue manager, at Cherry Beach Resort, which is owned by Great Blue Resorts and is located in the heart of Prince Edward County, Ont. Prior to her new position, Brennan was general manager of Hotel and Conference Centre at the Donald Gordon Centre, Queens University, Sodexo; GM of the Drake Devonshire Inn; and director of sales and marketing for the Ambassador Inn in Kingston. She also spent eight years as regional director of sales, Southern Ontario, for Royal Host's Crescent Hotels-managed properties in London, Oakville, Toronto, Trenton, Belleville and Ottawa, Ont.

ORHMA has announced its new Board of Directors for 2019/2020.

The executive committee includes: Dan Morrow, chair (MLSE); Steven Robinson, past chair (Easton's Group of Hotels); Jesse Hamilton, vice chair (Deerhurst Resort); Jorge Soares, secretary-treasurer (Woodbine Entertainment Group); David Blades, director-at-large (Realstar Hospitality); Sherry MacLauchlan, director-at-large (McDonald's Restaurants of Canada); Dharmesh Patel, chair of regional presidents (Quality Inn Leamington) and Tony Elenis, president and CEO (ORHMA).

Board members for the accommodation sector include: David Blades (Realstar Hospitality), Chad Hope (Holloway Lodging Corporation), Steven Robinson (Easton's Group of Hotels), Nigel Lucas (Superior Lodging Corp.), Zubair Siddiqi (Delta Ottawa City Centre), Shan Wickremasinghe (Rawley Resort Spa & Marina), Bill Durnford (Ambassador Hotel & Conference Centre) and Jesse Hamilton (Deerhurst Resort).
