IHG Hotels & Resorts sees strong growth momentum for extended stay properties in Canada
IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) reports upward momentum for the extended stay segment in Canada.
With three new regional extended stay openings in 2023 and an additional 16 in the pipeline, the category is gaining significant traction among both Canadian business and leisure travellers seeking economical, long-term accommodation.
To meet this growing demand, IHG is strategically expanding its portfolio across its extended stay brands in its Suites Collection, including Candlewood Suites, and Staybridge Suites. Recently opened extended stay properties in Canada include:
Candlewood Suites Collingwood, Collingwood, Ont. – Located at 502 Hume Street Collingwood, ON, L9Y 4H8, Canada — this 51-room property is a renowned tourist destination for winter skiing at Blue Mountain, a waterfront park that has views of the Georgian Bay escarpment and iconic Collingwood Terminals and more.
Staybridge Suites Port Elgin, Port Elgin, Ont. – Located at 1208 Goderich St, Port Elgin, ON, N0H 2C0, Canada — along the picturesque shoreline of Lake Huron, this hotel provides views of the hillside and countryside. The hotel offers one- and two-bedroom apartment-style suites featuring well-equipped kitchens and spacious living and work areas.
Staybridge Suites Dawson Creek, Dawson Creek, B.C. – Located at 1324 Alaska Avenue, Dawson Creek, B.C., V1G 1Z4, Canada — this property is in proximity to a Waterfront Park views of the river. Local activities include snowmobile tours, gold panning, horseback riding and more.
“Extended stay hotels not only are gaining traction among travellers but also are becoming more attractive to developers due to their lower operational costs and high operational margins. The hotels in our Suites Collection present an exciting opportunity for developers, who can reimagine the hotel business model and diversify the suites experience to align with the needs of Canadian travellers. IHG has a proven track record of success with extended stay properties and we look forward to bringing more of these hotels to the country next year,” says Jonathan Lund, regional vice president of operations, Company Managed Premium Hotels, and Head of Canada, IHG Hotels & Resort.
