Ribbon Cutting Hyatt Place Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Hyatt Place Toronto/Mississauga Centre is now open along with a show stopping convention centre. They celebrated with a socially-distanced ribbon cutting Sept. 21. Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie — dubbed ‘Charismatic Crombie’ by Arjun Jasuja, chairman of Sigma Group — was on hand for the celebration as were federal and provincial representatives for the area. The property is owned by two families, the Akhtar family of Midroc Holdings and the Jasuja family of Sigma Group.

“Since Day One, both families have had all hands on deck, pouring their hearts and souls into completing this project,” said Crombie. “This will be a place companies choose to host their AGMs and conferences, and use to impress their C-suite executives. Families will hold cherished events here, and people around the world will choose to stay here when visiting Mississauga.

“For a moment [during COVID-19] it felt like the world had stopped moving forward, but we are seeing momentum again. Soon we will be travelling again, and we want confidence in the places we are staying. We want top notch protocols, making sure we have taken every step necessary for safety. We are putting Mississauga on the world stage and [this hotel is] helping us to rise and shine. Rest assured, I will be no stranger to Hyatt Place in the future.”

Located on Hurontario Street in the heart of Mississauga’s business district, the 123-room Hyatt Place Toronto/Mississauga centre is the first Hyatt Place in Ontario. It features the Hyatt Place brand’s intuitive design, casual atmosphere and practical amenities that help guests do more. Hyatt Place hotels combine style, innovation and 24/7 conveniences to create an easy to navigate experience for today’s multi-tasking traveller.

“We are excited to introduce Ontario’s first Hyatt Place hotel to the Mississauga area,” said general manager, Celso Thompson. “With our smartly designed social spaces, including adaptable, state-of-the-art meetings and events spaces, and guestrooms with separate work and sleep areas, guests can easily multitask and accomplish what they need to do while on the road.”

There were some benefits to opening during COVID-19, said Anita Dharamshi, managing partner at Sigma Group. There was no retrofitting involved — hand sanitizer stations, contactless check-in and social distancing in the public spaces were all part of the opening process.

She added that Hyatt is including breakfast for everyone until the end of the year. (Usually Hyatt Place would have a full hot buffet for World of Hyatt members only.) Right now, there are hot and cold items, and everything is wrapped, so that guests can take the food to their rooms or get to-go bags. Hyatt Place also has The Market, which serves freshly prepared pre-packaged meals, sandwiches and salads anytime, day or night. The Bar features specialty beverages made with Starbucks espresso roast, and a variety of premium beers, wines & cocktails

The guestrooms are spacious, with separate spaces to sleep, work and play, featuring the plush Hyatt Luxury Pillowtop Mattress as well as a Cozy Corner sectional sleeper sofa.

Other amenities include: free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and guestrooms; a fitness centre featuring cardio equipment with LCD; a heated indoor salt-water pool open daily 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; touchscreens available 24/7; guest laundry, dry cleaning and two electric vehicle charging stations. The hotel is also pet friendly, welcoming cats and dogs.

Attached to the hotel is the Luxe Convention Centre, which includes event spaces with 12,458 square feet of flexible, high-tech meeting/function space that can accommodate up to 500 guests and is suitable for both social and business events. The space was designed to appeal to both corporate groups and social groups attending weddings or anniversaries. While the custom-designed chandeliers and wall murals provide luxury and an instagram-friendly backdrop, they are juxtaposed with industrial elements that make the event spaces suitable for business as well. Banquet equipment is top-of-the-line, and mobile bars help make the space very flexible.

Lorena Iogna, director of sales for the hotel, said the property has seven meeting rooms with the largest event space capacity at 5,900 sq. ft. and soaring 22’ ceilings. Ideal for upscale weddings for up to 400 guests, Hyatt Place Toronto-Mississauga Centre is the leading venue for corporate and social events in Mississauga. “A lot of people are doing meetings that require 6,000 square feet of event space that can’t be accommodated in the local area,” she said.

Installation of the crystal chandeliers was done crystal by crystal by a team of people working day and night, noted Iogna. “These are very delicate and complex chandeliers.”

“The property shows very well, and is doing much better than we expected,” said Scott Richer, vice president, real estate development, Canada for Hyatt, who was on hand for the opening. “There’s pretty decent demand.”
