Second-generation executives to lead national expansion of family-owned hospitality brand
Germain Hotels has named Marie Pier Germain and Hugo Germain co-presidents of the 36-year-old, family-run company, succeeding founders Christiane Germain and Jean-Yves Germain.
The siblings, each with more than two decades at the company, will share responsibility for strategy, development and day-to-day operations as the boutique-hotel group looks to accelerate growth across Canada and into new markets. The move preserves a co-presidency model established by their parents, which the company says mirrors its collaborative culture.
“I have had the privilege of working closely with Hugo since he joined the company. He was the very first general manager of the Alt banner and, from the very beginning, embodied the innovative spirit that is a cornerstone of our brand,” Christiane Germain says. “With his energy, he possesses a rare ability to bring a vision to life with rigour and creativity.”
Jean-Yves Germain praises his daughter’s track record: “I have seen Marie Pier successfully lead complex projects such as the opening of our first hotel in Calgary in 2006, and later, the major transformation of Le Germain Hotel Montréal in 2018. On each occasion, she demonstrated remarkable strategic intelligence and an exceptional eye for detail.”
Marie Pier Germain calls the appointment “a true privilege to continue the work of our parents while writing the next chapters,” adding that she and her brother are “surrounded by an exceptional team working in every region of the country.” Hugo Germain says the pair plan to lead “in our own way while remaining true to the values that have made Germain Hotels so strong.”
In a joint statement, the new co-presidents state that their objective is to “strengthen our roots in Canada so that Germain Hotels becomes the preferred choice and benchmark for Canadian travellers,” while exploring opportunities beyond national borders.
Headquartered in Quebec City, Germain Hotels operates 19 Le Germain, Alt and Escad properties across the country, with additional projects in the pipeline.
