Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is set to introduce BASIN Glacial Waters, a new thermal bathing facility designed to integrate seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Situated along the shores of Lake Louise, the indoor-outdoor wellness space is nearing completion and is scheduled to open in summer 2025.
BASIN Glacial Waters, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (CNW Group/Fairmont Hotels & Resorts)
Developed over two decades, BASIN Glacial Waters was designed by internationally recognized architect Matteo Thun. The facility draws on thermotherapy traditions, combining varying water temperatures to promote relaxation and restoration. It aims to offer a structured yet flexible experience, allowing visitors to engage in self-guided wellness journeys.
According to Emlyn Brown, senior vice-president of wellbeing, strategy, design, and development at Accor Group, BASIN represents a milestone for Fairmont’s wellness offerings. He describes it as a benchmark in thermal spa luxury, highlighting its connection to the surrounding landscape, contemporary architecture, and high-end amenities.
The design incorporates organic textures and minimalistic aesthetics. Guests will enter through a subdued, sensory passageway leading to an open space with arched windows that reflect the hotel's original architectural style. The facility includes Finnish and Bio Saunas, steam rooms, and an Aufguss Sauna, which follows European sweat culture traditions. Water-based elements include an infinity pool extending from the interior to an outdoor deck, as well as pools of varying temperatures, a reflexology pool, a waterfall feature, and a Kneipp Walk. Cold immersion options include an ice-temperature plunge pool and a cold bucket drop.
Beyond hydrotherapy, the facility features dedicated relaxation areas, such as the Silent Salt Relax room, which is lined with a Himalayan salt wall, and the Hot Stone room, where guests can recline on heated stone slab beds.
Tracy Lowe, general manager of Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, describes BASIN Glacial Waters as an extension of the resort’s wellness offerings. Initially, access will be limited to overnight guests, with pre-reserved daily passes for external visitors available at a later stage.
BASIN Glacial Waters aligns with Fairmont’s broader wellness strategy and reflects a growing demand for high-end thermal bathing experiences in North America. More details on the facility’s launch and booking options will be announced closer to its opening date.
